Blow Up Percussion presents A Tribute to Steve Reich at Romaeuropa Festival on Sunday, October 4, 2026. Beginning at 20:00 at Mattatoio in Rome, the 105-minute event is described by the festival as an Italian premiere and unfolds as one continuous musical journey through the Galleria delle Vasche and Sala T2.
The audience’s movement is part of the performance. Pendulum Music opens in the Galleria delle Vasche; Clapping Music accompanies the pathway toward Sala T2. The central sequence brings together Mallet Quartet, Music for Pieces of Wood, Marimba Phase, and Part I of Drumming. The audience then returns to the Galleria delle Vasche, where a tape playback of Come Out concludes the journey.
For marimba listeners, the programme places two important Reich works at its centre: Mallet Quartet and Marimba Phase. Rather than presenting the seven works as separate concert items, the production connects them through space, audience movement, and a progression of rhythmic and timbral ideas.
Blow Up Percussion was founded in Rome in 2012. According to Romaeuropa Festival, the ensemble performs modern and contemporary repertoire, develops new works through collaborations, and has built a particular connection with music by Steve Reich and other post-minimalist composers.
