I would like to purchase a marimba, mostly for practice purposes. I'm still in high school, so cost is VERY much a factor. At the moment, a rosewood marimba is probably out of my means. I would like to purchase one with as much of a rosewood feel as possible. I've played around on a few synthetics, but not on padauk - so any advice or information would be appreciated. Paduak seems to be significantly cheap, but what is the feel like? How does it compare to a lot of synthetics? Thanks for any advice.
There is a thread in the past about pros and cons of Padauk and Syntehtic Marimbas. Refer to the URL attached.
Also, you can search the past comments from the search tool.

I have an Musser M300. its a kelon 4.3 octave with graduated bars. As far as similar to rosewood, I would say it's quite similar in regards to the hardness of the bars. (mallets are the same hardness on kelon and Rosewood..as opposed to say Yamaha Acoustalon, where the bars are much harder) In fact i'd be wiling to sell it for about 1200 if you are interested..its about time I got a rosewood instrument anyway..and stop using my school's.

I would consider looking into that Marimba One (Message #999). It
Julia,
I would say stay as far away from fibreglass as your legs will take you. The only "fibrephone" that even vaguely resembles a marimba is the Yamaha Acoustalon. So go with the Paduk. IT'S WOOD! And as long as you don't play to loud in the bottom range you should be OK until you are ready to get a rosewood instrument.
Yea, check out the Marimba One in message 999-dynamite marimbas !!
