Greetings,
I am wondering if anyone knows of any pieces for Marimba, and Soprano (voice) Are there any pieces for Marimba, Soprano, with Orchestra?
So, if anyone knows of any pieces for Marimba, Soprano with any other instrumentation please let me know!
Thanks so much!
~Cheers~
I did see the chicago youth symphony orchestra play a very challenging piece for soprano and orchestra. It is called "An American Dream", by Frank Ticheli. Marimba isn't really featured, but it is noticeable, and there is so much percussion involved: timp, a nice array of cymbals (crash, splash, china, etc), tam-tam, vibraphone, glockenspiel, tambourine, crotales, tom-toms, bass drum, and triangle.
I too have had trouble finding pieces for voice and marimba, at least ones that are within most vocalists capabilities. Most of what I have found are REALLY contemporary and incredibly difficult for the vocalist. But, so far I have found The Firefly Hunt by Bob Becker (based on a Japanese haiku), Three subtropical vistas by Daniel Adams (the percussion part includes vibe work throughout as well as marimba)and the five pieces mentioned by scot is actually written by Lynn Glassock, but the only recording that I know of is by Mark Ford (these pieces are based on Emily Dickenson poetry). But, Like I said the most difficult part is finding a piece that the vocalist likes because none of these are very lyical. For that reson I am in the process of composing my own.
p.s. all the above mentioned are for soprano (subtropical vistas....mezzo soprano)
