I need a marimba instructor, but finding one is very difficult. I have no idea where to start. I am looking for drum corps style playing, without joining a drum corps. Right now I do not have the time. Should I look at local universities. I know they have instructors, but they can be expensive and I'm afraid of learning classical styles (is there a differance between corps style and classicle?)
I live in Philadelphia. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

what exactly do you mean by drum corp styles?? as far as the Marimba there really isn't much in the way of "Drum Corp" there isn't really much of a "corp" style. The dynamnics are uped a bit, but technique is pretty much the same as is interpretation. Also the corp experience isnt something you can get without being in a corp.

So I think you shouldn't really worry about a "Drum Corps" style on marimba..and also you're not gonna find anyone who just teahces a "Corp" style and doesnt teach "classical" style..even though Im not realy sure what you mean by that. Just the nature of the marimba being a newer instrument means most of the repetoire is modern..and not to harp but why would you want to cut yourself off from 300 years of wonderful music? Bach sounds great on Marimba (Saxophone too by the way..anyways enough harping..I would just go to a local university or..just a music store or a band director could reccommend someone.
