Hey everyone,
I'm playing Mirage for Marimba sole, by yasuro sueyoshi, and I am looking for a good 2 tone mallet that has nice soft and hard tone. Can anyone suggest one?
thanks--Al
PS-does anyone know anything about VMAX mallets?

try the Innovative Percussion William Moerch series
Or there is also a Malletech Stevens mallet that is very soft and extra hard, also a Malletech concerto mallet as such.

I've used the VMAX mallets. Their two toned set might be something worth considering for Mirage. Depending on the hall, you might not really need a two toned set at all for that piece. I recommend VMAX knowing they're a smaller business out in Montreal vs. these large industries which are turning out lots of stuff at not such a high quality.

I think it's important not to invest so much time on the mallets...as most the discussions re: marimba on the internet seem to be things that have nothing to do with people or music...I thought I'd say your hands are going to have far more to do with your music than what's in them.

1. VMAX have a good line of mallets, not a general mallet, but they have their uses.

2. the concerto 27z is a nice two tone mallet.....If you can get a hold of an older set, before mellaetech was sold, go for it.

3. on the PAS website, there is an extensive article on Mirage.

-good luck with the piece

i agree with Scott - the IP Moersch mallets are great for a two-tone mallet (try medium hard or medium soft) - also malletech's Mike Burritt model mallets are very good at achieving a good two-tone sound...

hope i could help out a bit...
