Ive just started marimba(about 6 months ago) and I love the instrument..Learned quite a few pieces already, and I was wondering what are some suggestions for a solo for solo ensemble next year? Did (of course) yellow afer the rain for district solo, taking rhythm song to state..I have a bunch of other songs I wanna learn over the summer, but nothing that I really wanna do for next year..I have a year to work on it, so something around the level of michi+ or so that you think would make a good piece, and if you have any sample pdf's of the music, or some kind of place to get a recording for it, that would be helpful.
Well since you've played Paul Smadbeck's "Rythym Song", you might also want to try some of his etudes. I haven't played them myself, but I've heard a couple of them, and I thought they sounded really nice. Anything by Smadbeck is worth playing, I think. So, hope you take my idea into consideration.
Darean,
Based on the repertoire you listed, I'd suggest working on some Bach - either a chorale or a movement (or more) from one of the Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin - perhaps the A minor violin concerto if you're working on two-mallet studies.
It never hurts to work on Bach, and the lessons learned in terms of melodic and rhythmic phrasing will serve as a strong foundation for your other musical studies.
