Hello, I'm beginning the Rosauro and also beginning to see why it is played so much. However I don't understand how its possible to move you sticks and hands appropriately. In the 2nd movement, how do you move your left hand when the right is doing the 16 note triplets. Do you put the right hand mallets on the ends of the bars? Also in the 3rd movement, there is a 1243 pattern but where do you put your left hand so the mallets don't hit each other. Needless to say that I'm very confused, but still very much in love with this piece. If there are any other suggestions for learning or proforming this piece, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Greg,
Yes, you use the ends of the bars in order to keep your mallets from hitting one another. In movement 2, I assume you're talking about the opening melody; I have mallet 2 in the center of the bar and mallet 1 on the end, and I roll it. In movement 3, mallets 1 and 2 are in the bar's center, mallet 3 is on the end bar, and mallet 4 is in the center. OR, you can try 2 on the end, 3 in the center. Experiment.
I wrote a paper on the acoustics of the marimba. The best sound comes from striking the center, and the next best sound comes from striking the ends.
Hope this helps, Lisa
