Hi! This is my first time at this website...but I am pretty desperate for some information.. I am looking for a reasonably advanced marimba duet. It would be easiest if it was two players/one marimba....but not necessary. I guess marimba/vibe duets would be ok too. 4 mallets are not a problem. I'm looking for pretty much anything...but if anyone has any favs...or good entertaining duets...please let me know...and soon. Thanks very much!!
Anna
Anna,
There are a lot of really great advanced mallet duets out there, but I can't think of any advanced ones that could be played on one marimba. The coolest duets I've played have been Nagoya Marimbas by Steve Reich, Wooden Music by Rich O'meara, and Alborado del Gracioso by Ravel arr. Safri. All three of these are hard enough to give you quite a challenge, but definitely doable. If I had to pick one I'd say NAGOYA! Check them out here:

A nice duet for marimba and vibraphone is Duet by Daniel Levitan. It uses 4 mallets throughout the piece on both parts if I remember correctly. The total time on the piece is about 7 mins.
my vote is for Nagoya Marimbs
check out "the Crimson King" - by Virtual Max
it's in Steve Weiss "mallet duets" - written by Charbonneau/Pancaldi - very sweet piece for marimba and xylo
just a thought...
