Hi,

I am thinking about dusting off the Basta Marimba Concerto and taking it round the local concerto competitions. Two questions:

1) Has the orchestra parts for the Basta ever been unearthed?

2) Rumors had it that the orchestral accomp for the Basta did not sound as good as the piano version. Can anyone who has heard the orchestral version give me their opinions?

Since I only have a 4 octave marimba (after 20 years!), I guess my only choices are Creston and Basta (and maybe the Hovhaness).

As a follow-up to my own message, I see that the Piedmont (Calif?) Win Symphony is having a concerto competition, and that the Basta is one of the set pieces for mallet players. This leads me to believe that somebody has turned up the orchestral parts. Or perhaps someone did a wind ensemble arrangement from the piano reduction.
