I'm currently analyzing the second movement of Merlin for one of my graduate research papers and would like to include a section regarding performance practice. I'm particularly interested in sections where beams and articulations do not mesh (but really would be interested in any aspect of performance ie. differentiating tenutos and accents, etc) Any comments would be greatly appreciated....
Thanks,
Shawn

Shawn,

I know Nancy Zeltsman has written a chapter on Merlin in her forthcoming book... she's planned an appendix of sorts that discusses some major pieces in a lesson-like way. So that would definitely help with your performance practice questions! However, since the book's not done yet, I'd suggest emailing her about it... her website is nancyzeltsman.com
Best of luck!

Shawn -

Currently I'm working on Merlin for my senior recital this Spring and the best advice that I feel that I can give you is to analyze both movements. I will try to remember to email you exact meausre numbers for you to see what I mean.

more on this later..

Best,
CJT
