Hello,
I'm playing the Mayuzumi xylo concertino in April with my university orchestra... want to rewrite the cadenza as it's a little bit too plinky plunky for me 🙂 Does anybody know the etiquette for cadenza composition, specifically relating to Japanese xylophone concerti? (How absurdly specific, ha ha 🙂 I don't necessarily want it to be much longer than whats written, just maybe a bit spicier.
Thanks, Evan Mitchell
Evan,
I would say go ahead and write your own. People have written and played altered/original cadenzas for Beethoven, Mozart, etc. Why not Mayazumi? Just try to keep a certain honesty and integrity concerning the style, feeling, etc. When I taught at Ithaca College I had a student who wanted to do the same thing...she did...it was great...have fun..
