Hi guys,
I was just curious what everybody feels are standards for xylophone solos. G.H. Green stuff, rag solos and such.
Pete
totally xylophonia but only if you do the duck call solo it's the coolest
The G. H. Green rags, Pitfield Sonata, Mayuzumi Concertino, and several hundred transcriptions.

Almost anything by Fritz Kreisler works great on xylo - Liebeslied, Liebesfreud, Tambourin Chinois, Schon Rosmarin...but in looking for them, make sure you have better spelling skills than I - some of the above titles may lack a few vowels here and there. And before playing em, do get a record of Kreisler himself performing - it's brilliant. As a music critic once put it, his tone is like a glass of red wine held to candle light. Cheers!

I don't know that they qualify as "standards," but I'd strongly suggest checking out some of Red Norvo's xylophone pieces, such as "Dance Of The Octopus," "Hole In The Wall," "Knockin' On Wood," etc. I don't think the music is in print any more, tho - but it would be worth the search to pick up the music if available.
