Greetings all!
After many years of pondering, I finally asked
the people at Adams to create a pedal for their
5-octave instrument. They finally did, and I have
(I believe) the only marimba in the world that
has a pedal - it
Alex,
I heard Bob van Sice mention that idea in 1993 - it's a great idea, although I already incorporate that kind of articulation in my playing, by using several degrees of dead stroke and mallet head damping. Nonetheless, I would be curious to know more about this, I am sure there is a lot to explore.
All best,
Pedro
Hi Alex
Sorry about that, but a pedal-set for marimba already exists. This system works like a usual vibepedal in its effect: dampening in off-position, but is very comfortable in its functionality. One may choose his own position for the pedal which is conected to the dampening bar just with a small flexible wire.
See more under www.gramorimba.ch.
You have a good idea. Questions: Where on the raised and natural bars is the damper located? What is the damper material, width, and thickness? Thanks.
Joe
