Is there any risk in playing on the edge of the bars with the mallet-shafts, "a la Stevens' 'Rhythmic Caprice'"? Is there a risk of the bars cracking, or my mallets breaking? If so, is there any precautions one should take for the means of practicing? Thanks.

well, I feel very foolish about this, but about a week ago i broke one of my 3-month-old mallets because I missed a note and hit the shaft on the edge of the keys. My word of advice would be that if you are going to do it, dont hit as hard as you normally would.
