Milton Babbitt is quite an accomplished composer. Though, I have not heard much about his marimba solo "Beaten Paths". Does anyone have any comments on it? Any additional info? Thanks.

I have been to a few recitals where Beaten Paths was on the program. I loved the piece, but it depends on your taste for 20th century music. I am pretty sure the piece has been recorded.

Babitt also has a great snare drum solo call Homily. It is in Stuart Saunders Smith's book The Noble Snare (I am not sure what volume)

"Beaten Paths" is one of the hardest(if not the hardest) and at the same time most beautifully profound pieces ever composed for marimba. To my knowledge, Tom Kolor is the only one to record it sucessfully. Search his name and I am sure you will find the recording.
