Sorry for swaying away a bit from the subject of marimba, I was just wondering if anyone has any pieces I should familiarize myself with? I haven't really done as much with the vibes as I have wanted to. I was wondering if you have suggestions on popular solo pieces for the vibes, you know, pieces that all vibe players are familiar with. Thanks.

Any of the John Piper stuff is a good place to start, or a piece called "Six Poems" but I forget who it's by right at the moment. Won a PAS comp. a few years back. solid

HoneyRock Publishing has a number of new pieces & collections for vibraphone including:
Compendium for Vibraphone/David Kovins
Four Concert Pieces For Vibraphone/Saverio Tasca
Five Miniatures/Piazzolla arr. Morleo
Concerto For Vibraphone & Band/Thomas Briggs

and the winners of this years PAS composition contest (solo vibraphone catagory) will be available shortly as well -
The Labyrinth/Chappell Kingsland (1st)
Floes/Alan Chan (2nd)
Market Day/Saverio Tasca (3rd)
The PAS winners should be available on their web-site for pre-publication purchase (at a discount) soon - as well as sound excerpts.

. . . . well you asked . . . 🙂
