I have inherrited my grandfathers King George marimba. Unfortunatly my aunt tried to paint it and probably ruined it. Its in about 100 pieces right now. I would like to restore this and keep it in my family. The wood keys have been kept indoors and are in great condition fortunatly, but the frame is apart and painted. Can anyone tell me what the best thing to strip the paint off of the pipes would be? And where to buy all the rubber and felt parts? Also if someone could send me some pretty detailed pics of thiers I would greatly appreciate it.
If you are serious about restoring a fine instrument, send it to Gilberto Serna of Century Mallet Instrument Service in Chicago. He is the last connection to the original Deagan and will do an excellent job of complete restoration, either to playable or factory fresh condition.
