Hey everybody!
I am a college student at Morehead State (Study mainly under Brian Mason, but also a little with Frank Oddis) and in a year and a half, I will be competing in a music competition with others in the music department. To date, I have performed these pieces: Etude in C Major, Rhythm Song, Two Mexican Dances, Dream of the Cherry Blossoms, Drum Corps on the March, and the solos on G.H. Green's Ragtime Robin, Log Cabin Blues, Triplets, as well as solos on several rags by various authors. For this competition, the time limit is 8 minutes. I would like to play the most beautiful piece I possibly can without it being unattainable within one year, considering my current level of playing. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Abe's Memories of the Seashore comes to mind. If you play those pieces you listed well this won't be very hard for ya.
The following are pieces I would look if you have done Dream of Cherry Blossoms and Two Mexican Dances: Toshimitsu Tanaka "Two Movements for Marimba", Akira Miyoshi "Torse III", Akemi Naito "Memory of the Woods". The Tanaka and Miyoshi offer alot of the slow choral-like stuff but also some fast energetic stuff too. The Naito is mostly choral-like and solemn, but "painfully beautiful".
