Hi everyone,
I am learning the Fugue, and I was wondering if it is "standard procedure" when playing transcripts, to attempt to roll a held out note, while something counterpuntal is going on over that. Such as measures 36 and 37 of this movement, where there are half notes, while eighth notes are being played over that. So, to roll or not to roll. Indeed that is my question. Thanks, George

In general, I recommend avoiding rolls in Bach. Think harpsichord, rather than violin.

P.S. The usual version of the section you mention is to alternate 16th's between the sustained voice and the moving voice.
