Hi all,
In "test driving" a marimba this weekend, I found that the mallets I'm used to (malletech Stevens) weren't at all appropriate for this particular marimba (a DeMorrow). This brings up two related questions:
1) Any DeMorrow players out there have a preferred mallet brand? The Stevens mallets I prefer just didn't have enough weight to them.
2) Malletech used to published a really helpful chart that detailed the hardness and weight of all their mallets. Does this information exist for other makers in some tidy location, or do I need to start compiling it? $20+ a pair gets pretty salty when you're just trying to find the right mallet...
Thanks,
Patrick

For heavier mallets, try the Malletech Concerto series, my line with Innovative Percussion, or the Yamaha Virtuoso or Keiko Abe Signature series.

Stevens mallets are so light, that they will generally only work on Musser or Malletech marimbas. Any instrument with longer bars (and consequently, a thicker tuning arch) will need mallets with more weight.
