I borrowed a 4 octave instrument from school for the summer. Does anyone have any suggestions for a solo piece that I can play on this size instrument? Thanks for your input.

Hi,

Depending on the difficulty level you want to go with,

Most of the Mitch Peters stuff can be played on a four octave, but, as I said, that's all about being easy.

Also, the Musser Etudes, Much of the older Japanese stuff such as Time by Miki, and such.

Smadbeck Etude No. 1

I'm sure there are some others....

Hope this helps,

mike

You didn't post your level of ability, so:

Beginner to Intermediate:

Stout: Reverie
Stout: Elegy
Peters: Yellow After The Rain
Abe: Frogs
Diemer: Toccata for marimba
Pitfield: Sonata (Xylophone Solo)

Intermediate to advanced:
Stout: Two Mexican Dances
Stout: Etudes (book 1)
Fissinger: Suite for Marimba
Bach, J.S.: Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin
Wilder: Suite for Solo Guitar (transcribed by Stout)
Miyoshi: Conversation (Suite for Marimba)

All require four mallets, except for some movements of the Bach Sonatas and Partitas, and one or two movements of the Miyoshi.
