Hi there,
I am currently playing Ivan Sings and I am unsatisfied with my mallet choice. I want a mallet in the right hand (melody) that has little contact noise and it can't be too soft since I have to play in the upper octaves. I am trying to wrap some the mallets I have now that I think that are the right hardness, but I am having a problem with the "tick" of the attack. What would you all suggest as a type of yarn to wrap with? Is there something I can do to the core to make less of a "tick"? What other things should I take into consideration about wrapping/re-wrapping mallets? I hope you all can help me.

Hello,

Start with a quality yarn. I suggest wool. If your core is the hardness you think you want, altering it with latex will change your core sound.

Good luck, wrapping by hand can be a pain.

Check out www.percussionconstruction.com

I suggest the soloist series for what you need.
