The percussion ensemble at my university is doing Marimba Spiritual for our spring concert. I'm the lucky dude who gets to play the marimba part. I'm having difficulty finding mallets I like for the fast section. Safri Duo did a recording using what I believe are some sort of latex mallets. I've tried various yarn mallets, none of them have the attack I'd like, cord seems to be too plunky. My big concern is the weight of latex/rubber mallets. I need some serious mass behind whatever mallets I use to get a good sound from my marimba (5.0 DeMorrow)
Some experimenting still needs to be done in the performance hall as well, but any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Kris,
Mika Yoshida's recording of "The Source" (on "Marimba Phase") was done on a DeMorrow. She pulls some terrific sound from the instrument, and while it's not as dynamically extreme as MS, it might be worth an email to find out what mallets she used- mikalove@ku.magma.ne.jp
Supposedly, the mallets being put out by Percussion Constructed were designed with the DeMorrow in mind. I haven't tried them myself, but they may be worth a look see.
Still on the DeMorrow waiting list myself, but our 2 month-old is keeping me more than occupied in the meantime!
Good luck with the performance-
Patrick
