Hello,
In my edition of the Chaconne, the arpeggiated section goes from thirty-second notes, to groups of six, then seven, and then finally sixty-fourth notes. I've listened to a recording of this on marimba, and on guitar and violin, and I can't figure out how they are executing these passages - but it doesn't seem like they are doing what is written, at least in my edition. What would you reccomend for this section? Just arpeggiate (on thirty-second notes) or what?
At the time, this was intended to be an improvised apreggio section -- the original simply gives the harmonies and moving lines in quarter, half, and dotted half notes. Different editions offer various realizations; I recommend the Dover / Bach-Gesellschaft Edition for its clarity and faithfulness to the original.
