Topic starter

Dear all,

I recently added Creston's Concertino to my repertoire and have been performing it. I would like to start a thread about the following topic: should this piece be performed with two or four mallets (apart from 2nd mov., obviously). I perform the work with 4-mallets throughout, as I think it projects phrasing much better, as well as allowing for using a softer and a harder mallet, on 1 and 4.

What do other players think and what is their experience on this.

Best wishes,

Pedro

A very interesting idea....I'm going to have to go try that 😉
When I did the Creston I did the outer movements with two mallets.
I'd have to say though, the purely visual effect of the 2 mallets moving so fast is quite, for lack of a better word, cool.
I am very interested to see what using 4 mallets does to the sound and expression of the piece.
