I recently met a marimba teacher at a high school in Santa Cruz, Guanacaste (Province), Costa Rica. In addition to teaching marimba at the high school, he organizes presentations, parades and festivals in Santa Cruz, the folk capital of Costa Rica, and has even opened a marimba woodshop where he manufactures marimbas under the tutelage of the few remaining local artisans.
He is looking for someone with a background in photo-journalism to research and document the history of the marimba in Guanacaste folk music. He is concerned because his students prefer Reggaeton to Guanacaste folk music, and because marimba-making in Guanacaste is quickly becoming a dying art. He believes that an in-depth photo journalistic article or research project would stimulate international interest in the marimba, marimba music, and marimba-making in Santa Cruz, Guanacaste, Costa Rica. Interested parties would make their own travel, food and lodging arrangements for their stay in Costa Rica.
If you would like to write an article for publication or conduct research on the marimba, marimba music, marimba making, etc. in Santa Cruz, Guanacaste, please contact me at the email address above.
Thank you for your time and interest.
Sincerely,
Rich Jenssen
