Is it generally acceptable to play a piece intented for marimba on xylophone, as long as you have the proper range of instrument? Is that looked down upon as far as auditions go, or does it make any difference? The piece I had in mind was Musser's Etude Op. 11, No. 4. At my audition, only a xylophone(4-octave, C-C) will be available and I already have it prepared. (It's in two weeks, so I don't have much time.) Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, does anyone have a recording of this? Thanks.
