I have two sets of Malletech mallets, the yellow/brown Concert CN14s and the white Stevens LS15H.
My hands tend to get very sweaty for some reason, and the shafts of my CN14s have turned dark brown and coarse to the point of being uncomfortable to use. (I've only had them 3-4 months) The other set is beginning to show these symptoms too.
I have over 20 other pairs of mallets and none of them are showing these signs. Of course, none of the rest seem to be that type of wood. Are Malletechs just bad, or mallets with wooden shafts? Is there anything I can do to make them better, like putting some sort of adhesive tape on it?
Also, this is unrelated, but does anyone know a good way I can mark my mallets (for identification purposes) without damaging them? Thanks.

hey Ben,
try using some tennis racket grip tape around the handles of your mallets. Not only does it keep the wood from getting grimy, but keeps mallet slipage to a minimum. They sell it at any sporting goods store for about $4 and it's easy to put on. It might be odd at first, but try it for awhile and you might find that it works really well.
hope that helps.........

You know, when I was first starting to play I had a teacher who wrapped moleskin around the ends of her mallets. I did it too for a time. The upside is that it is soft and absorbs amy moisture from your hands, the downside being the shaft is a bit larger then and that takes some getting used to. Moleskin is sold at General Stores in the foor department. It is what ladies put on the insides of their shoes to keep them from rubbing and causing blisters. If you are having problems with moisture this may help.
