Mutsuko Fujii, a percusionist, a marimbist, and a Sanukite player (Sanukaite is a marimba like instrument made of a type of stone called Sanukite), graduated Tokyo Geijutsu Daigaku in 1971 and since then, she has been actively playing as a percussionist as well as a solo and duo marimba player. She has commissioned over 40 works for the marimba from Japanese composers.
On the academic side, she has taught at the Senzoku Gakuen College of Music.
She has also worked in music education for young children and served as vice-chair of the All Japan Early Childhood Education Federation.
