I'm just curious on what people's opinion is on the sound quality of Paduk. I've never played on anything other than Rosewood or various other synthetic materials, but I've had an opportunity to purchase an Adams Paduk marimba at a fairly good price, compared to what I've seen them at retail price.

I'd assume that Paduk is closer to Rosewood than most synthetics, but that might be a bad assumtion on my part. I know most synthetic marimbas are more expensive than Paduk, but I assumed it had more to do with the price of manufacturing the material than the quality of the sound. For instance, Yamaha makes a snare drum with a shell made from the same Acoustilon material used in their synthetic mallet instruments, and it retails for nearly 1000 dollars.
