The terms I used were composed works and notated (meaning transcribed) improvisations. Ms. Abe's pieces generally fall in the latter category, which is an important aspect for a subsequent performer to know. No, I don't think that there is anything wrong with a program of Abe improvisations. I would just recommend an equal examination of the many works written FOR Ms. Abe, as well as works written for other specific marimbists. As to your other question, I have my personal favorites, but you are entitled to make your own choices.
