1. Takayoshi Yoshioka: Square Dance published by Zen-On. This piece was played at the Dallas PASIC and requires the players to move around four marimbas placed in the shape of a square.
2. Peter Garland: Apple Blossom available through Frog Peak www.frogpeak.org. 4 players on 3 or more marimbas. First performed and recorded by the Blackearth Percussion Group. Ensemble Bash has a CD out now.
3. Larry Polansky: E'leh T'ol'd'ot (Cantellation Study #3) available from Frog Peak. 4 marimbas and optional live computer commentary.
4. Franco Donatoni: Mari II published by Ricordi. 4 marimbas.
5. Michael Byron: Marimbas available from Frog Peak. 4 marimbas.
6. Claude Vivier: Pulau Dewata available from the Canadian Music Centre. A series of Balinese sounding melodies composed with the intent to be played by an ensemble of keyboard percussion. Performers make their own arrangement for any number of players and instruments.
There are other pieces available to a marimba quartet if all players aren't active in every piece. Jo Kondo has two excellent marimba trios - 1. Luster Gave Her the Hat and He and Ben Went Across the Backyard, 2. A Volcano Mouth. Both are published by University of York Music Press. And if you add an extra player, there is a good quintet by Enrique Guimera from the Canary Islands called Haikustikos.
