The piece you're thinking of is "Duo (Dance Song)" written by Gordon in 1977 (? - I don't have the music in front of me as I type this). The marimba part isn't all that challenging for an accomplished player, but you do have to have pretty good chops. The trumpet part requires a fairly good player, as I recall. It's an enjoyable piece to play, and it usually goes over fairly well with the audience. Gordon has performed any number of pieces for trumpet and marimba, including "Suite for Trumpet and Marimba" by Alec Wilder. He was (is?) a member of the Wilder Duo, with Robert Levy on trumpet.
