If you think that mvmt. V would be the easiest, you would be WRONG.

n = niente, or nothing, i.e. the D tremolo begins and then the E fades in and joins it.

At 10", the numbers underneath (4 over 2) indicate which mallets perform the tremolo (L to R, 1-2-3-4)), so NOT one-handed. At 5" on the second line, "(4-3)" means mallet 4 is replaced by mallet 3. Jacob worked it all out very carefully.

The only comment he made regarding this movement was that the notational system had a flaw: space on the page equals time, but many fast notes take up MORE space and thus appear to be slower, not faster. Find the breaths between phrases and increase the silence by compressing the grace note figures.

My trick for this movement was to use a MM=60 pulse and notate exact rhythms for everything. Then, I tweaked the notation rhythm until I found the exact pacing I wanted. The result was a perfect rendition I could play consistently correct.
