That is very true! This has me thinking, about composers that have written for the marimba. Alot of the great contemporary composers have written for the marimba (such as Rodney Bennett, Thomas, Druckman, Klatzow, Schwantner, etc.). Though, there are many other great composers that have not, that I think would be great for them to write. I have ALWAYS wanted to commission Tan Dun to write for the marimba. You know, one of those fantasies in the back of your mind. I think he is incredible, and my most favorite living composer. I think he writes very beautiful music. As far as I know, he has not written a marimba solo. How great would that be! Unfortunately, I would probably need to win the lottery to get enough money for him to do this. I am sure a marimba concerto would be really nice too. I heard a recording of his guitar concerto. Its really amazing. Another compsoser would be Christopher Rouse. The only percussion piece I am aware of is Ogun Badagris, but as far as I know there have not been a marimba solo written. Anybody else out there have any other suggestions? There are so many great composers out there, I can't even keep track! ~Behzad
