I have been using lemon oil to clean my marimbas and xylophones for almost 40 years (including my King George marimba), with absolutely no damage done to the keys. It cleans the finish on the bars, and helps to keep it in good shape. Of course, I use it sparingly, maybe once or twice a year (I take good care of my instruments generally). I put a few drops on a clear, soft cloth, rub on the tops and sides of a few bars at a time, then buff it dry with another clean, soft cloth. Then proceed to the next bars, etc. The lemon oil that I use contains no beeswax, and can be found at hardware stores and other such places. Other marimbists may have different ideas, but my many, many years of experience with lemon oil is proof to me that it is OK to use.
