You may have seen some of my other posts, but I'll reiterate... I received my 5.0 DeMorrow about 1 month ago, roughly a year after I ordered it. When I was comparing various 5.0's, I narrowed my choices down to Malletech, Marimba One, Kori, and DeMorrow. I discarded the Marimba One and Kori mainly for the lack of tunable resonators and because the tubes are aluminum, not brass. Also, the Kori had a really nice full sound, but lost definition when I played with a harder mallet or really started to dig into the bars. The Malletech has very thin bars, especially in the lower registers, and felt to me like I was hitting cardboard. There was also a distinct lack of feedback coming to the player on the Malletech, which is normal in instruments with brass resonators, but far more pronounced. The DeMorrow just blew the others away in sound quality, especially in the upper registers. I have never heard such a clear, defined pitch in the upper octaves that is so easy to attain when playing. The instrument as a whole sounds excellent and I have not been able to play hrad enough to distort the sound of the bars. It's deafening in my house. I can't wait to get it into a nice concert hall where the brass can really project.
As for how it looks, I didn't want to touch it when I unpacked and assembled it. I just wanted to put it in giant glass case and stare. The oak is as good as I've ever seen on furniture, and the polished brass tubes are as bright or brighter than a good trumpet. The only drawback to having both oak and brass is that it's heavy as anything.
If you want some pics of mine, send me an e-mail and I'll send a few your way.
