Hey man,
Something that worked well for me is to just do some good old marching pit-style 6-3-2-1, (6 on each note up, three down, etc.) your hands in fifths, and split the mallets.
(Ex.: 1-1-1-1-1-1-2-2-2-2-2-2-1-1-1-1-1-1-2-2-2-2-2-2....etc) Of course, double one and three and two and four.
Perhaps I'm rambling and not making sense. Perhaps you've tried this. At any rate, it'll work, but it's not especially fun until you get it going pretty fast, which will take TIME, as is true with any technique builder.

P.S. Don't do this for hours on end, you'll jack up your muscles and drive yourself nuts in the process. Ten-fifteen minutes each day should be sufficient to start, and work your way down as it becomes more comfortable.
