http://members.aol.com/Woodenbars/storfrnt.htm usually has some good used instruments, as does ebay. Almost any rosewood 4.3 marimba will serve you very well, though at some point you will have to upgrade to a 5 octave to be able to play the complete repertoire. The cheapest 5 octaves I've seen are around $8000 (adams), so a 4.3 is probably your best bet, and will allow you to play almost everything.
