a graduated set of medium-hard mallets will be a SET of mallets that are harder then a graduated set of medium-soft mallets.
So while EACH mallet in the medium-hard set may not be harder then EACH mallet in the medium-soft set, the entire set is geared for harder, more articulate playing.
The mallets are all quite similar, just the bass mallet in one particular set sounds best in the lower register, while the soprano mallet can punch through in the upper register.
