I don't know what grip you use, but what jsb said is probably at least partially right. I'm sure you are holding the sticks right, but that doesn't mean tension is not in your arm. However, I'm not sure that is what is causing this problem. If your teacher is telling you you are doing the grip right, this might just be a phase you need to go through until your fingers build up the appropriate callouses. You shouldn't practice to the point of your hands bleeding, take it easy, spend more time practicing slowly and calmly, this could help your hands get the right motion down, and give your fingers time to heal and build their strength.
