Hi - that is an old recording (from the 1980's I think) but it still sounds great doesn't it? (both the playing and the marimba sound). The new Keiko Abe line by Yamaha was not out then and I'm not sure what is suggested today. I play that piece all the time and can tell you that I use 2 Moersch IP 501's in the left hand and 2 Moersch IP 502's in the right hand (that is on a Yamaha 6000 marimba). I like the fullness in the bottom and can still get a bright enough sound at the top withthe 502. Anything harder (503, etc.) will sound too thin on the low end. I use ratan and I'm not sure if that is standard issue yet with IP. I think the rattan does make the inst. sound so much better than birch or any other standard wood stick. Enjoy, the piece is a lot of fun. The mallet suggestions may be on yamaha's mallet website. Greg
