I am back from the concert. I went with one of my collegue who was visiting me from the U.S. Junko could not go because she is in Matsumoto right now to play with Saito Kinen Orchestra (Dir. Seiji Ozawa)
The hall was nearly full. Only the three most front rows were empty. I was listening on the fourth row. It is kind a pity that I had to ran after the concert due to other assignment thus I could not chat with Prof. Rosauro. A friend of mine, Moyuru Oda was playing with him, so, though I do not personally know him, it should not have been difficult to get hold of him :-)
The piece's orchestra version was premiered in June in Brazil. It was the world premier of the percussion ensemble version. I guess the later would have much more chance of being performed, but I also felt that I need to listen to the orchestra version to really appriciate it.
Program was as follows:
Japanese Overture
Variations on The New World
from Two Reflections for Solo Vibraphone
Suite from the Marimba Concerto No.2
Brazillian Fantasy (Bah in Brazil) for two Marimbas
Serenata fro Vibraphone, Marimba and percussion Ensemble
Caboclinho from Brazilian Popular Suite
Valencia for Percussion Ensemble
