Hey Chris,
I use the DP3 for most all my playing. It's probably the "general" mallet you've been looking for. Consider though, that getting the Dan Pancaldi Signature Series will get you a thicker, and longer birch shaft than usual.
I would suggest ABC otherwise, but those go for $110 USD a set.
