Different schools may require different types of prepared pieces - but every audition list I've ever seen for undergrad' entrance auditions suggests, if not requires, a two-mallet piece. Joe, I'd suggest contacting the school(s) you're auditioning for, to confirm whether they expect a prepared two-mallet piece.
