Don't you think it is an honest answer when Matt mentioned being selfthaught?
All builders, including Ron Samuels, are selfthaught, specially regarding tuning. Don't forget that none of the wellknown manufacturers are telling how they tune.
BTW Ron is a nice exception.

I find myself lucky to not carrying the bagage of other brands knowledge. It is so easy to just work up to the level of the wellknown brands and not exceed.
When being selfthought, you really know everything there is to know on tuning, cause you have messed up all there is to mess up.

Being a selfthaught vibe manufacturer myself I dare to say that my bars are sounding warmer and better than the Mussers and Yamahas currently available.
Regularly I have here wellknown brand bars for retuning, or for constructing new vibraphones carrying these bars, and every time I am finding that I wouldn't want to trade my own bars with these.
