I have no idea about the authenticity of this report, but a friend of mine said that someone in Germany made a 6.5 octave marimba, so conceivably it they could make a 7 octave instrument that would range from the high G that Yamaha now makes down to an extremely low F or E below that of the normal 5 octave instrument. As beautiful as this instrument would be, yes, it is a little ridiculous.
I just wish i had specs for the 6.5 that i was told about
