As with everything in life, everyone has a personal view of things..which makes everything quite interesting. There have been 6 octave Mexican and Guatamalan marimbas for some time, and I even get to tune a few every year. What fun!! for those interested in really LOW LOW notes, are you familiar with the music/instruments of Harry Partch? Particularly the MARIMBA EROICA...Some of the most visually and aurally beautiful instruments ever built. (Not to easy to transport, though :>)) Look in "Genesis Of A Music" by Harry Partch. I believe it is back in print. Does anyone know if the instruments are still in La Jolla with Dan Lee Mitchell? It's been so long I've lost track of him/them.
