i totally agree with your point #2. one great example that im struggling with is tchaikovsky's 4th symphony cymbal excerpt at the end of the last movement. i mean, if you think about it, holding 2 large, heavy pieces of metal, of course its gonna be harder to play in time. i guess i must adapt.

now im kinda slow, heh heh. so could you explain to me what phonetics are? and whats the fifth limb principle?
