When choosing a marimba, several manufacturers make BEAUTIFUL looking instruments. However, when choosing a marimba, you need to go with your ears, not your eyes. The only marimbas which we have chosen consistently as best sounding have been manufactured by Musser and Bergerault. They are the only ones who can pass our stringent tuning accuracy tests. The other big manufacturers seem to have pinched a lot of their tuning methods from Musser, but they forgot to hang around for the final exam. Only Musser and Bergerault triple-tune and side-overtone tune to our satisfaction. The span is a little bit greater in the low end, but it is a compromise we are willing to make to get such a beautiful, rich sounding instrument.
